The Murray Law Group, P.C., was formed in 1996 by four highly experienced and nationally recognized labor and employment attorneys together with a cadre of excellent lawyers and support staff from a major Detroit law firm specializing in providing counseling and litigation services to local and national employers.
The formation of our firm was motivated in large part by the increasing demand from large and small businesses to be represented by highly skilled labor and employment attorneys without having to incur the large overhead costs of a full service law firm. With our firm, clients receive major law firm experience at boutique rates. We have expanded our philosophy to the additional practice areas we have added since our founding. Our legal practice continues to be governed by one prevailing goal: to provide the best legal representation possible for our clients in a cost-efficient manner.
Located in the Detroit, Michigan, suburb of Bingham Farms, we serve a large number of local, national, and international businesses which value our creative and innovative solutions to their problems, our responsiveness and attention to detail, our ability to complete assignments in a timely manner, and our commitment to providing sound legal advice and obtaining the best possible results.
Over the past twenty-three years our labor and employment law boutique of eight attorneys has grown to a firm of 13 attorneys, including the addition of a seven-attorney business immigration practice group. To complement our continued proficiency in labor and employment matters on behalf of employers we now provide our clients with expertise and services in the areas of benefits litigation, immigration law, commercial litigation, business torts, condemnation, zoning and land use litigation and general litigation.
The national reputation of our firm has grown along with its size. Three of our attorneys – Gregory Murray, Susan Hartmus Hiser and William Altman have been selected by their peers from across the United States as Fellow of the American Bar Association’s College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. The same three attorneys are also members of the American Employment Law Council. Murray, Hiser, Dorothy Hanigan Basmaji, Debra A. Clephane Kennedy, Ronald Reynolds and Kathleen Saenz Poppenger are listed in various editions of The Best Lawyers in America, and Murray, Basmaji, Hiser and Kennedy are Fellows of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Murray, Hiser, Basmaji, Kennedy, Altman and Reynolds have been designated as "Michigan Super Lawyers." Gregory Murray is an Executive Board Member of the Federal Bar Association. Debra A. Clephane Kennedy is the past Chairperson of the International Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Susan Hartmus Hiser is a past Chairperson of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Ronald Reynolds is a past Chairperson of the Real Property Section of the State Bar of Michigan. A significant portion of our work comes from in-house counsel and law firms located across the country who have come to rely on our advice and expertise in resolving complex labor issues resulting from the sale, merger or acquisition of a corporation, plant closures, and large force reductions; sensitive employment issues such as problem employees, terminations, sexual harassment, and violence in the workplace; and complex cases involving difficult and cutting edge issues. Our Immigration Team provides clients with the assistance to successfully secure and retain the specialized employees they need to survive in a global economy and stay compliant with government regulations.
