Trout Raley Montaño Freeman Sinor Thompson, P.C.

Significant Matters

Our attorneys Peggy Montaño and Bennett Raley together with our firm client, Southwestern Water Conservation District, worked with a team of experts in the fields of engineering, permitting and economics to reach a comprehensive settlement with state, local and tribal parties to water rights litigation in Colorado’s Water District 7 concerning water rights which are key to the operation of the Animas La Plata Project (ALP Project). The ALP Project is a United States Bureau of Reclamation Project constructed to provide municipal and industrial water supplies to area water users in Colorado, on tribal lands and in New Mexico.  The settlement was reached after years of contentious litigation and protects existing and future users on the Animas and La Plata Rivers.
